An Introduction to Online Blackjack
Blackjack has origins dating back centuries, with evidence suggesting the game was played in 17th century Spain and France. Even then the games were based on the building of hands to form the number 21, where Aces are worth either 1 or 11. Unchanged for centuries, the strength of the blackjack format is beyond doubt - it's certainly easy to see why it became the most widely played casino card game and why it was brought to the internet to create online blackjack.
The overall goal of online blackjack is to have a hand greater than the dealer's without exceeding the number 21. Blackjack itself is the combination of being dealt an Ace and any card worth 10 (King, Queen, Jack and, of course, 10) and is strongest hand in blackjack. The only way a player cannot win with a blackjack hand is if the dealer also produces blackjack.
To build a winning hand, a player must "hit" to receive cards until calling "stand", where the player accepts the sum of their cards. The dealer will then play their hand and try to outscore the player's. In many variants of online blackjack, the dealer must "stand" on soft 17, which means the dealer cannot draw any more cards to try and beat the player. If the dealer or player continue to "hit" (to draw cards) and exceed a score of 21 then they are "bust" and lose that round of online blackjack.
