Overview of Texas Hold'em Poker

Texas Hold'em hands are made up of your best five cards, consisting of any combination of 2 cards dealt to you, known as Pocket Cards or Hole Cards, and any of the 5 Community Cards dealt face up in the middle of the table by the dealer.

Texas Hold'em Poker has 4 rounds of betting and is one of the fastest games in the 32Red Card Room. Hands are usually finished quickly with a maximum of 10 players able to take part in a hand. The objective of the game is to finish with the best Poker Hand and to win the Pot.

Easy guide to playing Texas Hold'em Poker

At the start of each hand, each player is dealt 2 cards. These 2 cards are known as Pocket Cards and can only be seen by the recipients of these cards.

Once the Pocket Cards have been dealt the first round of betting takes place.

After all the players have either bet, checked or folded (and all remaining players have contributed equally to the pot so far), the dealer lays down the Community Cards. The first of these 5 cards are known as The Flop and consists of 3 cards, all dealt face up in the middle of the table. Note, the Community Cards are shared by all players at the table.

Example: This player has an Ace Pocket Card and there is an Ace in The Flop; he has a Pair of Aces.

Once the Flop has been dealt by the dealer, another round of betting takes place between all the players left in the game.

After this round of betting - ending with either all players contributing equally to the Pot (or else there's a winner and the hand is finished), a fourth Community Card is dealt face up by the dealer, this card is known as The Turn Card. The Turn is sometimes referred to as Fourth Street.

Example: This player has a pair of 3's as Pocket Cards and a 3 is dealt as The Turn card. He now has Three of A Kind.

A third round of betting now ensues and then the final Community Card is revealed by the dealer - The River - and placed alongside the other Community Cards, again face up. The River Card is sometimes known as the Money Card as it often makes the difference between winning (money) or losing (money)!

Example: Our player this time holds suited cards and there are now 3 further cards on the table of the same suit. This hand is known as a Flush.

Once again betting resumes once the River is dealt and each player left in the hand attempts to win the Pot on the strength of their cards. If any more than one player is left standing after this last round of betting - Showdown - then all remaining players' hands are revealed (or Mucked) with the strongest hand winning the Pot.

Summary

  • Everyone gets 2 Hole Cards.
  • 3 Community Cards are dealt face up in the middle of the table - The Flop.
  • The fourth Community Card dealt is known as the Turn.
  • The fifth and final Community Card to be revealed is known as The River.
  • Between each round of card dealing, players have the opportunity to place bets.

Tips to Win

  • Five of the total of seven cards eventually dealt are viewable on the second round of betting. At this point you should have a good idea of how strong your final hand could be.
  • To compete a possible winning combination, you should consider how the five Community Cards interact with your two Hole Cards.
  • Fold if necessary! You can limit your losses if you have a poor hand and decide to fold early in the hand.

Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit Texas Hold'em

Limit Texas Hold'em Poker

If you are new to the game, we recommend you start playing this game where bet size is determined by the limits on the table and every raise and call are set. In the first round, betting is capped to one bet and three raises per player. The size of the bet will double for the last round of betting after The River has been dealt on a Limit table.

Playing Fixed Limit Texas Hold'em Poker means you will not have to compete with players making unlimited bets or even going All In - and putting all their chips on the table - thus forcing you to risk all your chips to stay in the game. 32Red offers the following ranges of table limits for Texas Hold'em Limit Ring Games and Tournaments:
