32Red Ambassador 1,000 Guineas guide

It’s the Qipco 1,000 Guineas on Sunday – here’s our trio of top jockeys Josephine Gordon, Luke Morris, and Jamie Spencer with their verdict on the race. For the latest betting, visit 32Red.com/sport.

Josephine Gordon

I am sure most people will think I am on the filly (Dream Start) most likely to come last here, as she was beaten a long way in the Wood Ditton on her debut month. But she has had a wind op since then, and runs in a first-time tongue-tie here, so hopefully she can take a step forward. But, clearly, we are tilting at windmills in this company. Rhododendron is the obvious one to beat on the form she showed in winning the Fillies’ Mile, but if any horse could improve past her it could be the Nell Gwyn winner Daban. But I certainly wouldn’t rule out our filly Unforgetable Filly. I think you will see a better filly than the one who chased home Daban last month, and the extra furlong will be in her favour, too. I give her a really good each-way chance at what I imagine will be a decent price.

MY 1,000 GUINEAS 1,2,3: Rhododendron, Daban, Unforgetable Filly

Luke Morris

Rhododendron had the best form at two courtesy of her Fillies’ Mile win and I struggle to see how the rest have caught up with her, to be honest. Aidan will have her primed for this.  I was impressed by Daban in the Nell Gwyn, considering she went into the race on the back of just an all-weather win, and the market support for Winter in recent days has spoken volumes considering the stable also have the favourite and form horse. She ran a very nice trial when second to Hydrangea in a race that is working out well at Leopardstown and I think she has a solid each-way chance.

Jamie Spencer

Rhododendron is obviously the form horse on her Fillies’ Mile defeat of Hydrangea and I hear some very positive reports about her.  I think she is by far the likeliest winner and Fair Eva could be the one to chase her home; I thought she looked a bit weak last year and there is plenty of good chat about her, too. The Irish 1,000 Guineas trial won by Hydrangea looks very strong form and the one I would probably take out of that race is the runner-up Winter. Apparently, she is flying at home, too. Of the others,  I think Daban is not sure to last out the mile.
