12.20pm Newbury

Black Op

He went for a fair bit of money after impressively winning his only point, and I imagine his future lies over fences. But he has been working and schooling well in preparation for his hurdles debut here, and he showed plenty of ability in his bumper runs. I don’t think the course was ideal for him at Aintree but this nice galloping track should be, and the form of his Doncaster bumper win was very strong. He is a horse I like, and this is a nice starting point for him.

3.35pm Newbury

Boyhood

This is his first start over 3m and his only previous run at around this trip saw him run below form, but I don’t think it should be a problem myself. He did it very nicely for me over 2m3f in the soft at Lingfield last time, and I would say he was entitled to go up 7lb for that, especially as the third and fourth have run well in defeat since. This is a nice pot to have a crack at, and I can see him running a nice race. He is a young horse with not many miles on the clock.
