Bryan Cooper on Grand National: One that caught my eye at the weights was More Of That

Bryan Cooper on Grand National: One that caught my eye at the weights was More Of That

I don’t think any of the Gigginstown horses have been done any massive favours by the handicapper with the Grand National weights.

Gordon has already ruled out Outlander and, while Don Poli has come right back to form in his last two starts and looks to have a good profile for the race, he looks to have a stiff enough task off that weight.

Empire Of Dirt has also been given a late blow by being raised 4lb for his second to Sizing John in the Irish Gold Cup last Sunday.

If I’m being honest all I am focused on at the moment is getting back riding this weekend with Cheltenham on the horizon, but at least Empire Of Dirt underlined his Festival credentials at the weekend and you would have to view him as a live Gold Cup candidate now in an open year, though obviously the Ryanair is an option, too.

One that did catch my eye in that Leopardstown race on Sunday was More Of That before he unseated at the last, and I think the handicapper has given him a real chance.

Ucello Conti has to be on my shortlist as he clearly bumped into one when second to Champagne West in the Thyestes, and his fourth in the Becher Chase at Aintree in  December has worked out well.

I am not sure if they are intended runners at this stage, but two of ours at massive prices that could be worth a look are A Toi Phil and Devils Bride.

A Toi Phil was disappointing at the weekend and is a novice,  but he is good on his day,  while Devils Bride is interesting, even off a mark of 157.

I fancied him for the Topham last season but he didn’t end up running and we haven’t seen him for a while, as well as all his form has come over less than three miles.

But he is a very smart handicapper on his day, as he showed at Galway last July,  and he runs well on decent ground and when fresh. He is an interesting entry, but I couldn’t tell you what the current plan is with him.
