Luke Morris: Archie has his horses in outstanding form

Luke Morris: Archie has his horses in outstanding form

2.05pm Beverley

Frolic

She ran a very encouraging debut for me in the soft at Newmarket last month but then didn’t back it up at Ayr nine days later.  That was obviously disappointing and this is a decent novice, but if she returns to the form of that debut effort then she has definite claims here. Perhaps the Ayr run came too soon, and a bit of rain would probably help her chances.

3.15pm Beverley

Final Venture

This is a decent renewal of the Beverley Bullet and a very close-knit race on official ratings too – the three form horses, of which I am on one, all carry 3lb penalties – so it’s a very difficult one to call. All of these tie in closely with each other on form, and my mount has run well enough in Group 1 and 2 company, most recently at York, since finishing ½ length second to Take Cover at York in July. A midfield draw in seven is okay, if not ideal, and we will see what happens. I don’t think it’s a race in which anyone will be confident of winning going into it. Run this race ten times and you could get ten different results.

7.20pm Chelmsford

Amazing Alice

She probably has a bit to find on form but Archie has his horses in outstanding form, of which Amazing Alice is one.  I rode her when she won at Wolverhampton in July and she scored at that track last time, as well as having winning form here. This is her first start at 7f but hopefully that won’t be a problem. She likes to go forward, as do a couple of others in here, so we will see how the race unfolds on that score. She is solid and she tries hard.

7.50pm Chelmsford

Swift Approval

I won on him at Newmarket last time and he has run well enough in a couple of more competitive handicaps off a 4lb higher mark since, including here.  He doesn’t look to have much in hand at the weights, and we will see how being drawn 15 of 16 works out – it’s not ideal – but it interesting that Stuart is trying him in eyeshields for the first time, rather than the usual hood.

8.20pm Chelmsford

Fantasy Keeper

He was beaten by an in-form horse at Nottingham last time, and has been given a break since. He has been beaten on his last two starts, and has edged up the handicap for them, but he is still lightly-raced and hopefully the step up to 7f will suit him.  He has run well here before, too.

8.50pm Chelmsford

Ickymasho

She has given me a few good spins, including when winning for me here in June, and she has had a break since finishing a good third in Listed company at Deauville at the start of July.  She has gone up 5lb for that run and carries 10st 5lb here, so this is tough for her, but she loves the surface and hopefully she is still progressing and can get her own way out in front.
