It is unfair to make excuses when you get beaten and I don’t like doing it, but I just don’t think Cap Soleil turned up when beaten by Dame Rose at Newbury. I am not sure if the cut that she picked up on her shin had a bearing on her performance but, whatever the cause, I don’t think she gave her running that day. She had earlier been so impressive when beating Countister, who won easily last weekend, and Dame Rose at the same track and I was very happy with her when I schooled her on Thursday morning. This race has cut up a bit numbers-wise but the opposition is still very strong – Willie Mullins is sending over Court Artist for starters , and two of the other three are also very promising in their own right – though I think the heavy ground and the longer trip will really suit my horse. We haven’t lost faith in her, that’s for sure.
