Sheeraz vs Denny: who wins? Denzel Bentley & Liam Davies share their thoughts

Sheeraz vs Denny: who wins? Denzel Bentley & Liam Davies share their thoughts

This weekend’s massive show at Wembley Stadium really does have something for everybody.

The heavyweight title fight between IBF champion, Daniel Dubois, and two-time unified champion, Anthony Joshua, is understandably hogging the headlines. But the fight between rising middleweight star, Hamzah Sheeraz, and European champion, Tyler Denny, is going slightly under the radar. For all the latest fight odds, visit our sportsbook.

Both fighters are in tremendous form and both scored career best victories in June. Sheeraz knocked out the dangerous and unbeaten American, Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams, whilst Denny had his way with Felix Cash before winning a technical decision after five rounds.

After a rocky start to his career, Denny, 19-2-3 (1 KO), is riding an eight-fight win streak during which he has taken five unbeaten records. Sheeraz, 20-0 (6 KOs), seems to improve with every outing and has worked out exactly how to utilise his height, reach and power. He will be made to work by the clever, determined Denny who will pour his heart into this unexpected opportunity.

A few weeks ago, Denzel Bentley scored a frightening knockout of Derrick Osaze to solidify his spot at number two in the WBO world rankings. He will be paying extremely close attention to events at Wembley Stadium. Bentley would welcome a fight with Sheeraz – who sits at number one – and Denny would also become an even more attractive opponent if he can spring the surprise.

One man who is backing Denny is the Wolverhampton man’s stablemate, IBO super bantamweight champion, Liam Davies. The brilliant Davies is preparing for his delayed fight with Shabaz Masoud which takes place in November and has spent enough time around Denny to believe that he has what it takes to continue his outstanding run of form and take his career to even greater heights.

Denzel Bentley – Two time British middleweight champion and world title challenger

“I think Hamzah wins. Hamzah’s very, very disciplined in the ring. He’s not going to buy into whatever Tyler Denny’s doing.

“He’s got good counters, he’s just sitting there. I think it’ll be similar to the ‘Ammo’ Williams fight.

“Not in that I mean he’s got the power, but he’s going to try and rush him and try and bully him and Hamzah’s just going to sit there and punch in between the gaps. So it’ll probably be not as competitive as the Williams fight but it’s going to go that sort of way. He’s going to try and bully him and Hamzah’s going to sit in his guard, punch in between and probably stop him.

“Tyler’s good but someone’s got to do something really well to beat Hamzah.”

Liam Davies – IBO super bantamweight champion and former British and European champion.

Sheeraz vs Denny

“Tyler’s gonna do it.

“This is the way I see things. Is it Hamzah’s toughest fight? 100%. People talk about ‘Ammo’ Williams but he hadn’t beat the people Tyler Denny has beat. I get that they’ve been made up to be that good but I’m a realist. If you look behind the piece of paper, it’s plain. Tyler is on form, he’s beaten some good operators and momentum is behind him. Sheeraz is obviously a big puncher and momentum is behind him too, but this is his biggest fight. I think it’s both of their hardest fights. Everyone’s just saying it’s Tyler’s hardest fight.

“Obviously, taking ‘Ammo’ Williams out was good but, to me – I like and respect Keiron Conway – but if you were as good as that you would have stopped him after dropping him. That’s the way I see it.

“It’ll be a good fight, that’s for sure.”
