Wild West Wind
I have never been out of the first two in three starts on him, so I hope that run continues here. He has won on heavy but he has run well on better ground, and he comes here after a fair third at Exeter last time. He may ideally want it a bit softer but he should run okay.
He obviously didn’t run up to his best on heavy ground at Sandown last month and the handicapper has left him on the same mark. So he is still 14lb higher than when winning so well at Wincanton the time before and if he returns to that form then he must have a fair shout. He has winning form on better ground, too.
Chase The Spud
He can be a bit in-and-out – I suppose most staying chasers are the same – but he is back on the same mark as when second to the subsequent Eider Chase winner Mysteree over 3m4f at Haydock in November. And he didn’t run badly at Carlisle last month. He is weighted to go well at his best but he certainly wouldn’t mind any more rain on his first attempt at this marathon trip.
