Premier League preview: Brighton vs Spurs, Arsenal vs West Ham

Brighton vs Spurs

After a rough patch, Tottenham have won their last three league games, and should head to the south coast with a spring in their step.

Spurs have taken victory on each of their last two trips to the Amex, and Brighton have shown a few frailties this season – even if they haven’t lost at home since August.

The Seagulls have only won one of their last five league games, however. Four of their last five home games have ended in draws, too. It’s not difficult to see the visitors taking something from this game.

On balance, it’s probably worth chancing Tottenham to keep their good run going against a side that have impressed in Europe at the expense of the domestic campaign so far this season.

Spurs are 31/20 for the win; Heung-Min Son, so often the Hotspur hero, is 6/5 to find the net. He may hope to contribute while he can; the South Korean departs for the Asia Cup at the start of 2024.

Arsenal vs West Ham

Arsenal can return to the top of the league table with a win at the Emirates. And it’s currently five straight home wins for the Gunners in the Prem. Can West Ham possibly prevent Arteta’s side making it six on the bounce on Thursday?

On home turf, David Moyes’ team saw off Wolves and then Man Utd in the run-up to this match without conceding a goal, though a 5-0 shoeing by Fulham before that raises some questions. Well, one question really – how the eff did Fulham go from winning back-to-back games 5-0, to losing three on the bounce?

While that mystery remains unsolved, let’s focus on this London derby. The Gunners are generally formidable at home, West Ham are generally not that formidable against Arsenal – and David Moyes is winless in 72 away fixtures in the Prem against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd.

I’m not exactly going out on a limb by suggesting a home win, then. Trouble is, the odds are priced accordingly. Instead, let’s have a flutter on goals.

West Ham have conceded 10 in their last two away games (the aforementioned Fulham defeat, and also Liverpool in the League Cup). Over 3.5 goals is a 7/5 shot that could work out here.
