Premier League preview: Sunday’s action including Spurs vs Arsenal

Bournemouth vs Brighton

Any hopes that Brighton would do Arsenal a favour in the title race were dashed on Thursday, the Seagulls stumbling to a 4-0 loss at home to Man City.

The injury-hit side remain without several players like Kaoru Mitoma, Tariq Lamptey and Evan Ferguson.

And while Roberto De Zerbi remains a manager in demand, the south coast team haven’t exactly been in impressive form in the last few months. It’s one league win in eight attempts.

Brighton have won their last three meetings with the Cherries, but it could be a good time for the hosts to improve on that record. Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last five at the Vitality, winning three of those. This could be another home win, and you can back Bournemouth at 6/5.

Spurs vs Arsenal

Tottenham haven’t played for a couple of weeks, since the 4-0 defeat away to Newcastle. Does that mean they’ll be well rested for this one, or rusty?

While the loss to the Magpies was startlingly one-sided, Spurs have won five of their last six home games. None of those games came against any of the Prem’s elite sides, however.

For this bitterly contested north London derby, this could be one of those occasions when the hosts step things up. After all, Spurs earned a point in the reverse fixture, Son Heung-Min bagging a brace in a 2-2 draw. That said, Arsenal won this fixture 2-0 last season.

And the Gunners dare not drop a single point in the title race; maybe that added pressure will have a negative effect on Arsenal. But Mikel Arteta’s side seem to have shaken off any lingering bad vibes from defeats against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich earlier this month.

The 5-0 savaging of Chelsea on Tuesday night should restore belief that Arsenal are a fearsome threat to any team (even if Chelsea were terrible).

This one is unlikely to be such a stroll in the park. But there again, the Gunners have shut out the opposition in their last six away games in the Prem. That amounts to five wins and a goalless draw to Man City, so the Gunners should come into this one in confident form.

Spurs may be able to find the net, however – they’ve done so in their last 25 league games at home, after all. With that in mind, backing Arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals in a double at 59/50 looks a decent bet.

Nottingham Forest vs Man City

We’d love to think that Forest can find a way to frustrate Man City on home turf, but there’s not a stack of evidence to suggest it can happen.

Against the Prem’s better sides, Nuno’s side have been defeated at home by Liverpool, Man Utd, Newcastle and Arsenal in 2024. True, this fixture ended 1-1 last season. But that’s a result that the hosts will surely struggle to repeat.

City have scored 17 goals in their last four Premier League games. Even if the Tricky Trees can put in a heroically committed performance it may not be enough to stop the likes of Foden and De Bruyne. Both of whom scored against Brighton midweek, in a 4-0 rout, incidentally.

With the previous game between these sides this season seeing 10 yellows and a red card for Rodri, there’s a very good chance we could be in for another card-packed afternoon.

Forest have been loudly complaining about perceived refereeing injustices. With the club creeping ever closer to the relegation zone, this one may be another belligerent affair. Backing over 4.5 cards at 21/20 could pay out, then.
