Premier League preview: Crystal Palace vs Spurs

Premier League preview: Crystal Palace vs Spurs

Top of the table and unbeaten in nine league games, it’s a marvellous time to be a Tottenham fan.

Still, there’s an argument that the north London club have been good – but also a tad fortunate so far this season. That Spurs’ lofty position is partly the result of a favourable run of games.

Victories have come against a Man Utd side who’ve struggled all season, and against Liverpool in a match where, notoriously, the Merseyside team saw a good goal wrongly disallowed.

Ange Postecoglou’s other wins have come against the likes of Bournemouth (currently 19th in the league table), Burnley (18th), Sheffield United (20th), Luton (17th) and Fulham (13th). Spurs have clearly improved under new management, but let’s not go crazy.

That said, there’s no reason the unbeaten run can’t continue at Selhurst Park on Friday. This London derby has tended to go Tottenham’s way in recent seasons; Spurs’ have won 11 of the last 14 league encounters between these sides.

And Palace are struggling at the moment, with one win in five, and just two goals scored across that run. Palace were spanked 4-0 away to Newcastle at the weekend; their last two home games, against Fulham and Nottingham Forest, have ended in goalless draws.

So yep, there’s a fair chance Tottenham’s time at the top can continue this weekend. Spurs are odds-on shots to win away, but you can combine Tottenham to win and BTTS No in a 2/1 double.

That result would have paid off in the last three meetings between these sides. Palace have failed to score in three of the four home games they’ve played this season, too.
