Premier League preview: Everton vs Newcastle, Spurs vs West Ham

Everton vs Newcastle

The Magpies gave Everton a bit of a shoeing at Goodison when these sides met last season. Newcastle have broadly continued to impress since then, but while Sean Dyche’s side are in a less happy position, they’re not doing terribly, at least on the pitch.

The Toffees won last time out away to Forest, and a win against Eddie Howe’s visitors would move them out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle could have too much for the hosts though; Everton were beaten 3-0 by Man Utd in their last home game, and have in fact won just once at home in this campaign.

And Newcastle enjoy playing Everton; they’ve won five of their last six meetings with the Merseyside club.

Even with the possibility of fatigue kicking in on an injury-depleted Newcastle side, the Mags can probably take all three points here. The away win is a 5/4 shot.

Spurs vs West Ham

Tottenham were the toast of the Premier League after their battling performance against Man City at the weekend; Spurs left the Etihad with a point after a late goal from Dejan Kulusevski levelled the score at 3-3.

After three straight defeats, the result in Manchester was proof that Ange Postecoglou has not lost his flair for taming the Prem’s biggest beasts – or charming the neutral.

Who knows if a match against West Ham can conjure up similar spectacle on Thursday night – it seems a stretch – but it’s easy to fancy the hosts to see off David Moyes’ side.

The Irons actually go to north London unbeaten in their last three league games. But West Ham have not had much luck at the Tottenham stadium, losing three of their last four visits.

What’s more, Son Heung-Min has a particular fondness for games against the East London team, scoring in each of his last three matches against West Ham when Spurs were hosting.

With players and fans alike seemingly still full of the joys of their new relationship with Ange, after the loveless marriage of Tottenham and Antonio Conte, it would be a surprise if the home side doesn’t take all three points here. Back Spurs to win and Son to score in a double at 17/10.
