West Ham had a very merry Christmas, David Moyes’ side beating Wolves and Man Utd at the London Stadium before heading over to north London to overcome Arsenal in the Gunners’ backyard.
Nope, didn’t see that coming. The Irons are up to sixth in the Prem; now they look to continue that good form for their opening game of 2024. But can they do a number on Brighton?
The Seagulls were sublime against Tottenham
The Seagulls were similarly sublime against Spurs last week, going four nil up before Tottenham launched a late comeback bid in the last ten minutes; it ended 4-2 at the Amex.
Now Brighton turn their attentions to east London. With two teams full of beans and belief, can Roberto De Zerbi’s team nab an away win on Tuesday night?
Well, the hosts will be without some key personnel, with Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd each now figuring in the Africa Cup of Nations. Lucas Paqueta is also missing through injury.
But Brighton have their own absences to deal with; 10 players are currently injured for the Seagulls, including Kaoru Mitoma and Ansu Fati, while Lewis Dunk is suspended.
With both sides having lost key players, it’s tricky to say who’s best placed to come out on top here then.
West Ham won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in August, though Brighton were 2-0 victors on their last visit to the London Stadium in 2022.
In fact, West Ham have failed to win a single home game against Brighton since the south coast side arrived in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season.
But with both sides having impressed in recent weeks maybe backing goals is a better approach; over 3.5 is a 7/5 shot. Otherwise, back Jarrod Bowen to score at 33/20; Bowen has scored in three of his last four appearances for West Ham.
