He didn’t show much in his Warwick bumper but he stepped forward a good deal on his hurdling debut at Wincanton last month when a fair sixth. He will obviously need to improve again to figure here but he is lightly-raced and comes from a good family.

This race has obviously cut up and he goes for his third course win. He actually has had two starts in America since we last saw him in this country but he returns on a fair mark and he will like this decent ground, and hopefully the step back down to 2m will be okay for him, too.

Divine Spear
I’ve won a bumper and a maiden hurdle on him, and he has been in great form this winter and comes here on the back of an excellent second to Air Horse One at Ascot last time. The downside is that he is 5lb higher today but he progressing and is effective on good and soft ground. There is a lot to like about his chances in an open race.

This is the first time I have sat on him but he certainly looks a good ride to pick up. He is clearly bang in form and progressive, and he impressed when making all over course and distance last time from a horse of ours called Full Shift. Good ground and forcing tactics clearly suit him well, and a 3lb rise that for victory may still leave him feasibly treated.

He didn’t run up to expectations in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury but his earlier form makes him the one to beat in here. I rode him when he won at Ascot in October and he then improved on that victory when third to Messire Des Obeaux and Ballyandy at Sandown in December. Good ground suits him well and he has had a nice break since Newbury, so hopefully he can return to his best here.

He needs to step up on the form of his two Huntingdon bumper runs to figure here but he clearly has the potential to improve as he gains experience.
