Adrian Heskin: The step up in trip is well worth trying

3.00pm Cheltenham

KK Lexion

We had the option of this race or the 2m5f handicap for him, and I think the right decision has been made to come here and chance our arm. He was very impressive for me last season when winning at Wincanton, though he paid for that with a 14lb rise in the weights. That was a bit harsh and he has struggled since, but it looks – I didn’t ride him – as though he shaped nicely on his return over 2m5f here last month. That will hopefully have brought him on a fair amount and I think the step up to this trip for the first time is well worth trying, even if he did have the pace to finish a good fourth over 2m at this meeting last season. He was powering clear when winning over 2m5f in the soft at Wincanton last season, and I think this trip on decent ground could see him step forward. It will probably need to, as he has only come down 4lb since that stone rise. He has a nice racing weight, though.

Rose Of Cimarron

I haven’t ridden her before but she looked good when winning at Uttoxeter in the summer, and can go hopefully give another good account of herself here as she steps up in class. This does look a pretty hot race, though.
