With Thomas Tuchel at the helm, Bayern Munich’s new manager has already outwitted Pep Guardiola once en route to Champions League glory. After taking charge midway through the season, his Chelsea side overcame Man City in the final two years ago.
So can Bayern go to the Etihad and get something against the tournament favourites on Tuesday night? The Bundesliga champions have won every Champions League game they’ve played so far in this campaign. Of course, City at anything like their best should offer the sternest of tests.
With Bayern’s pedigree in this competition it will be no shock if they can at least find the net in Manchester. Backing City to win and BTTS Yes in a double at 2/1 could be a decent shout; twice already this season City have conceded at home in this competition when winning, against Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.
Benfica vs Inter
After a ten-game winning streak in the Portuguese top flight, Benfica warmed up for this Champions League encounter with a 2-1 defeat to Porto on Friday.
That was just Benfica’s second league defeat of the season, and manager Roger Schmidt will be hopeful the side can bounce back against an Inter team that are winless in their last six games in all competitions.
The Serie A side haven’t exactly lit up the Champions League, scoring one goal in their last three games; Simone Inzaghi’s side progressed from the round of 16 after beating Porto 1-0 in their home leg, with the second leg goalless.
Benfica have been rather more ebullient, sticking five past Club Brugge last time out. At this point in the competition – and particularly against Inter – goals may be harder to come by. Backing under 1.5 goals at 39/20 could be worth a look.
