Jamie Spencer: Everything looks set for another big run

1.50pm Newmarket

Oasis Fantasy

He won this race two years ago, and that was his last victory. He can be a frustrating horse but he has dropped down to a mark of just 88 and the drying ground is in his favour. If it clicks for him, then he is easily capable of winning this.

2.55pm Newmarket

Mr Lupton

He won this race last year and this is exactly the kind of race and challenge that he relishes; big field, strong pace, 6f, and decent ground. He is actually 3lb lower than when winning last year, too, and comes here after an excellent reappearance second in the soft in the Cammidge Trophy. Everything looks set for another big run, and he could be hard to beat.

3.35pm Newmarket – 1,000 Guineas

We were going to run Teppal in here. She doesn’t go now, but she is one to keep an eye out for this season. She is smart, and has wintered well and got a lot stronger. Hopefully, she has a good campaign ahead of her.

Laurens looks the overpriced filly to me in the race. Her 2yo form in winning the May Hill Stakes and Fillies’ Mile probably entitles her to far more respect than she is getting in the market, and her sire Siyouni has already got some smart fillies, notably this one and the likes of Volta. And she has looked good and strong in the videos that I have seen of her working recently.

Her form ties in closely with Lagardere winner Happily, who is a lot shorter in the betting.

I rode Soliloquy to win at Ascot last season and, to be honest, she didn’t strike me as a Guineas filly there, and I am not sure about the strength of the Nell Gwyn form. But, of course, she has a chance in a winnable year and I see her as being more of a miler than the Boussac winner Wild Illusion, who won that Chantilly race by staying and is likely to be better over further.

I am not sure Fred Darling winner Dan’s Dream wants a mile, but I think Anna Nerium definitely does. I was really impressed by her in the Free Handicap, and I expect this Dubawi filly to improve stepped up in trip.
