Jamie Spencer: Hopefully, first-time blinkers will eke out improvement

6:15am Randwick, Saturday

Brave Smash

I rode Red Cardinal for the owners Australian Bloodstock when he was trained by David Simcock here, so that is how I came to be offered the ride in the Everest.

I actually have seven rides on the day, and it is something new, so I am looking forward to it.

I have never ridden the course before but Randwick looks a pretty straightforward right-handed track, with a good stretch.

Brave Smash is an ex-Japanese horse – he raced over a variety of trips there – who has run well on all three of his starts over 6f in Australia, winning one and being narrowly beaten in the other two.

They have decided to put blinkers on for the first time after his recent second at Caulfield, and hopefully they will eke out a bit of improvement. They will need to, as he does have to improve, but he is definitely worth his chance in the line-up for this huge money, for all that he is one of the outsiders.

I have gone through the videos of all the runners in the race and possibly the one that stands out to me at the moment is Redzel.
