Josephine Gordon: Her record suggests soft ground is not ideal

Mable Lee

She has run her two best races with a bit of ease in the ground and won quite nicely over 5f at Thirsk last time. She went up 5lb for that but hopefully is progressing and conditions should suit, and a draw in five could have been worse.

She has a fair bit to find on form but she doesn’t pick up a penalty for her Group 2 win last year and she would have a chance on her fourth in the Ribblesdale, in which she did well to finish so close from off the pace. Her overall form does leave her with something to find and her record suggests soft ground is not ideal, but she is definitely worth chancing with the race cutting up so much.

Alejandro

I won on him a couple of times earlier in the season and he looks to have been given a break since a slightly below-par run in June.  He is on a fair mark but he will need luck from stall nine and ideally I think he would want better ground, too. And maybe he will need this first run back, as well.

She doesn’t look to have shown a great deal in two runs so far, though she ran better at Goodwood last time, but hopefully there is more to come from her. Perhaps softer ground and the step down to 6f will suit.

He hasn’t been in the best of form but at least he has been plummeting down the weights. All his best form in this country has been on the all-weather but he did have soft-ground form at a decent level in Italy. If he can reproduce his form at Kempton and Lingfield earlier in the year, then he is very well weighted off 78, but he needs to show more than of late.

Berrahri

He finished last in the 2m handicap at the Shergar Cup meeting last time but that was his first attempt at the trip and he probably didn’t get home. Back in trip, hopefully he can pick up where he left off previously, winning here in July. He went up 6lb for that victory but soft ground doesn’t look to be a problem for him. I won on him at Lingfield earlier in the season and hopefully he can give me another good spin here.
