Premier League preview: Everton vs Crystal Palace

Premier League preview: Everton vs Crystal Palace

Everton’s last victory came against Crystal Palace when these two sides met in the FA Cup last month; can Sean Dyche’s team repeat that feat against a beleaguered Eagles who are without their manager for Monday night’s action?

Roy Hodgson was taken ill last week, with the Palace boss currently still recovering; assistants Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy are expected to take charge at Goodison Park.

Palace have lost their last four away games

It’s also widely expected that Hodgson will step down from his role imminently. Former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner is set to take over.

Palace have lost four of their last five matches, while the Toffees are winless in their last seven league games. So – who to back here? Will the Palace players rouse themselves in tribute to Hodgson? Or can Everton take advantage of their struggling rivals to earn a much-needed victory?

Palace have lost their last four away games in all competitions, shipping four goals against Brighton and five against Arsenal in their last two outings.

The Toffees may not offer quite such a threat in attack as either of those two sides. Nonetheless, the difficult circumstances for Palace suggest this is a good chance for Everton – even if the odds-on price for a home win won’t appeal to everyone.

But with Palace lacking creativity with injuries to Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, and Everton having failed to find the net in four of their last five league matches, this one could be low on goals.

Backing Everton to win and under 3.5 goals in a double at 11/10 might be a decent approach for this one.

Or you could try backing Everton’s Jack Harrison to find the net; on loan from Leeds, Harrison has scored in the Toffees last two home games, and is 6/1 to open the scoring here.
