Premier League preview: Man Utd vs Wolves

Man United are heavy favourites for the win as get their Premier League campaign up and running against a Wolves side seemingly ill-prepared for the new season.

The Old Gold parted company with manager Julen Lopetegui just days before the start of the season; the Spanish coach had only been in charge of nine months, and chose to leave because of the club’s underwhelming approach to transfers.

Gary O’Neil replaces Lopetegui; having unexpectedly kept Bournemouth in the Prem last season, the Cherries nonetheless decided O’Neil was not the man to lead the club forward in this campaign. Can O’Neil defy expectations once again with this Wolves side?

Even if he can, getting something at Old Trafford on Monday seems a tall order. At the end of last season, Wolves lost six of their last seven away games, shipping five goals against Arsenal and six against Brighton in that run.

Conversely, United have won their last six league games at Old Trafford. The side have made interesting recruits over the summer too. Promising young striker Rasmus Hojlund and highly rated keeper Andre Onana joins former Chelsea favourite Mason Mount.

United will be without Hojlund on Monday, though; the 20-year-old picked up a back injury in pre-season. But even without their new signing, the hosts should have too much for a Wolves side that managed two goals in their last six league games last season.

In fact, Wolves managed just 31 goals all season, fewer than any other team in the Prem. There’s little cause for optimism when it comes to the side possessing a greater goal-scoring threat in this campaign. Back Man Utd to win and BTTS No in a double at 19/20.
