FA Cup fourth round: Saturday’s standout ties

FA Cup fourth round: Saturday’s standout ties

Maidstone set out to be the FA Cup’s latest underdog heroes on Saturday lunchtime, as the National League South side venture to Portman Road to face off against Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys are currently second in the Championship, and look a tough nut to crack for the visitors, who play in the sixth level of the football league system. Even in their own league, Maidstone’s form is only fair middling, with two victories in their last eight outings.

That explains the odds for this one anyway – Ipswich are firm favourites at 1/10, while Maidstone are available at 15/1 for what would be an unlikely victory. Still, supporters can dare to dream.

If you’re adamant that the Stones can indeed rip this joint, you could back Muhammadu Faal to score; he’s netted in his last two matches for Maidstone. Although Cup romantics, it’s worth remembering you can’t always get what you want.

In the day’s other televised match, Fulham host Newcastle; the Cottagers are looking to put their midweek League Cup exit to Liverpool behind them. Newcastle made short work of Sunderland in the third round. And the Magpies have won their last four meetings with the west London side.

Eddie Howe’s team do have some issues at the moment – like two wins in their last ten games in all competitions. And Marco Silva’s side are capable of pulling out an eye-catching result when you’re not expecting it – though their only wins in the last nine games have come against Arsenal and Rotherham, rather underlining their erratic nature.

The Mags’ Alexander Isak has five goals in four games, and may be the most dependable source of goals here. Isak is 19/5 to find the opener.
