Jamie Spencer: I think there is a fair bit more to come from her

Jamie Spencer: I think there is a fair bit more to come from her

Over at Sandown, I think Masar could be the one to beat in the Eclipse. But I have three decent rides at Haydock, and they all have winning chances.

God Given

We didn’t go very fast when she won here last time, but she ground it out, and it was just a case of job done really. I wasn’t as aggressive on her as I could have been but a win is a win, and I do think there is a fair bit more to come from this filly. We know she handles quick ground now but, by the same token she has won on soft, so a couple of showers would be ideal. She is unbeaten in two starts on the track, and is one of the form horses going into the race.

Horseplay is the best of these on official ratings as it stands, but there are a few improvers in here. Flattering was good at Cork after a fair run in the Oaks, while Mrs Sippy shaped really well for me at Newbury behind Sea Of Class. She travelled as well as the winner for most of the race before getting tired late on, and is a smart filly. Being by Blame, the trip is a slight concern, but then again her dam stayed 1m4f very well.

There are a lot of positives about this horse’s chances. Sure, his form fell away badly on his last two starts last season but he has been gelded since, and runs in a tongue-tie for the first time, and comes back to handicap company as a well-treated horse. He is only 6lb higher than when a very impressive 3-length winner of the King George V handicap from a wide draw at Royal Ascot last season, and he seems to go very well when fresh. The draw in three is fine, and the stable is in good form. He should go well.

He is what he is. He is the best in here on official ratings even with his 4lb penalty, he beat Mythmaker over course and distance earlier in the season, and conditions look to be in his favour. Okay, he has run below par on his last two starts, including at Newcastle last week, but he has the form to be winning this or at least going very close.
