He has been a star for us, netting a quick hat-trick over the winter and then running two superb efforts in defeat since. I wasn’t on board when he was just touched off at Lingfield but he ran a brilliant race for me when just touched off in the Spring Mile at Doncaster. That obviously came on soft ground, and it looks like being a bit quicker here – which probably isn’t ideal, to be honest – but he is clearly progressive and hopefully he can still be competitive despite going up another 4lb for Doncaster. Hopefully, there is still a bit of juice in the ground come Saturday afternoon.
I thought he shaped with promise in two starts last season, latterly when I rode him at Newmarket, especially as he was a bit weak. He has strengthened up well and his recent work has been good, so fingers crossed he can put up an improved showing here. He needs to, clearly, but I am hopeful he will run well.
