Wizard’s Sliabh

She progressed well last season, even if a little disappointing on her final start at Newbury, though that was a tough handicap and she certainly didn’t run badly. She needed the run on her comeback at Uttoxeter and that should have put her spot on for this. In fact, this race has been the plan for her for a while, and the handicapper has also done us a favour by dropping her 2lb for Uttoxeter. Ground and trip will suit, and I’d like to think that she will run very well.

He is a horse I obviously know very well, though he keeps on surprising you as he creeps up the weights. He showed tremendous battling qualities to win in first-time blinkers at Cheltenham last December and then went on to run a couple of very good races when placed at Kempton and Sandown. He is up to a mark of 154 now, which makes life very tough in these handicaps, but he tends to go well when fresh and he has each-way chances again. And he has won on his only start at this track. He may prefer slightly better ground than he will get if the expected rain arrives, but he has winning form on soft, so hopefully that won’t be a problem.
