Premier League preview: Aston Villa vs Sheffield United

Premier League preview: Aston Villa vs Sheffield United

One of the Prem’s most high-flying sides hosts one of the league’s more likely candidates for the drop. But if the outcome seems obvious, figuring out the right bet is less straightforward, with Villa heavily odds-on to win.

Villa currently sit just a point behind league leaders Arsenal, and can move into the lead, at least briefly, with victory here.

The Villans’ record at Villa Park is outstanding; they earned a 1-0 win over the Gunners earlier this month, and should they beat the Blades on Friday, Unai Emery’s side will make it 16 home wins on the bounce.

It’s hard to see any other outcome. Chris Wilder has led his side to a home win since returning to Sheffield United earlier this month. But the side still have a total of just two victories all season.

Both of those wins came at home. It’s a tough ask to see Wilder’s team securing a first away win of the campaign at Villa Park.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, backing Ollie Watkins to find the net is a pretty good way to go here.

The striker scored the winner against Brentford at the weekend. And Watkins has five goals in his last seven appearances for Villa; the only blanks he drew were against Man City and Arsenal.

Combine BTTS No and Watkins to score in a double at 21/10. Or back Villa to keep the goals coming; you can wager on over 3.5 goals at 41/20, and Villa have already stuck four or more past West Ham, Brighton and Everton this season.
