Premier League preview: Chelsea vs Man City

Premier League preview: Chelsea vs Man City

Graham Potter’s arrival at Chelsea prompted talk that the Englishman needed time if his new side were to flourish under him.

So much for the patient approach. After less than four months in charge, plenty of supporters are already questioning the former Brighton man’s ability to reinvigorate their club.

It’s a tough climate in which to right Chelsea’s listing ship; and against Man City this week, the Blues may find themselves drifting towards ever choppier waters.

This is the first of two back-to-back meetings between the sides, with  City hosting Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday; by the end of that match, Potter could well be heartily sick of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Whatever the outcome, this league match is unlikely to be a landslide victory for either side; seven of Chelsea’s last eight games in the Prem have seen two or fewer goals scored.

This could be another tight affair, albeit one where it’s the visitors who emerge with three points. Still, perhaps it’s better bet to focus on the goals market than the result; under 2.5 goals is available at Evens.

If you’re determined to back the result, it’s worth remembering that neither team have been at their best in recent outings.

Chelsea drew away to Nottingham Forest last time out; Man City dropped points, somehow, against Everton in their most recent match, having lost their previous home game against Brentford. It sounds unlikely but it did happen.

But Guardiola must view this as a timely opportunity to get back on track, and Chelsea have struggled to keep opponents like Arsenal and Newcastle at bay in recent matches, losing 1-0 to each side. A similar result could be on the cards here, and City are 13/2 to win 1-0.
