Paddy Brennan: I feel he is the one they’ve all got to beat
Back To The Thatch
The ground shouldn’t be any issue for him at all as he finished a good second on heavy at Haydock earlier this month, and he races off the same mark here. He has his stamina to prove over this 3m2f trip but he certainly has a nice racing weight in the conditions.
Poetic Rhythm
He had a touch of colic a couple of weeks back, but he appeared to get over it very quickly – he only missed a couple of days, in fact – so here we are. And I’d say we had a pretty decent chance in this Grade 1, too. He has never raced on officially heavy ground before but it was plenty testing enough when he won his Cheltenham bumper, so we won’t be using that as an excuse, and he has been in great form this season. He did really well to win the Persian War and then he ran an absolute cracker under a 5lb penalty when third to On The Blind Side and Momella at Cheltenham. The first two home have won good races since, and he clearly doesn’t have to carry any penalty in this Grade 1. He is now rated 147, and I feel he is the one they’ve all got to beat. The fact that he is a second-season novice, with plenty of experience, is very much in his favour, too.
