Champions League: Juve v Barca, Dortmund v Monaco

The first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals get underway on Tuesday night. Looking for the right bet?

Borussia Dortmund v Monaco

Dortmund warmed up for this match with a confidence-frazzling 4-1 loss to Bayern Munich at the weekend. And anyone who saw Monaco’s excellence against Man City in the previous round will have plenty of faith in the Ligue 1 side putting in a good shift tonight.

Still, Dortmund are no patsies – they held Real Madrid to draws home and away earlier this season, and the result against Bayern notwithstanding, may offer a rather sturdier defence than that which Man City put up against Leonardo Jardim’s side.

Perhaps the draw is the smartest bet, at 39/10. Dortmund are 13/25 to win, and Monaco are 9/2 if you think Kylian Mbappe and co can work more magic at the Signal Iduna Park. Following that train of thought, goals seem likely too; in the Total Goals market, you can back over 2.5 at 3/8, or take over 3.5 at 24/25.

Juventus v Barcelona

Serie A leaders Juve take on a Barcelona side that have struggled at times this season – not least in this competition. In the previous round, Barca were comprehensively beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg, only to pull off an astonishing 6-1 comeback to earn their place here tonight.

That performance makes it clear that Barca can still play get the job done when they need to, but Luis Enrique’s side did lose 2-0 to Malaga at the weekend. Maybe they’re conserving their strength for tonight’s game, but there’s also a suspicion that the Catalan giant could come a cropper once more in Italy.

Juve’s record at Juventus Stadium is brilliant – they’re unbeaten in their last 17 matches in the Champions League on home turf. And while Barcelona at their incredible best can find a way past the most resolute of defences, the Old Lady haven’t conceded a goal in their last three CL matches. Juve are 33/20 to win this game, with the draw a 47/20 shot, and Barcelona available at 7/4. It could be worth backing Massimo Allegri’s side to come out on top here.
