Liverpool v Leeds on opening day as Premier League 2020-21 fixtures revealed
Klopp v Bielsa to get the new season underway – not a bad way to get the party started, right? Leeds United’s first Premier League game in 16 years sees the Yorkshire club travelling to Anfield, to face reigning league champions Liverpool. Check out our opening weekend fixture betting here and our outright season betting here.
It’s a pulsating start to the Prem for Leeds, who swept to glory in the Championship under eccentric coaching genius Bielsa last season. And there are plenty of other intriguing encounters in the first weekend of the season, which gets underway on the 12th September.
Manchester City and Man United will not be amongst the sides in action on the first weekend, however; each side have been given extra time to prepare for the start of the season, following their recent appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.
But newly promoted Fulham will be in action, hosting Arsenal in their first game back in the Prem; let’s hope the Cottagers can improve on recent results against the north London side. Fulham have lost each of their last five Premier League matches against the Gunners.
Other opening weekend fixtures include Crystal Palace hosting Southampton, Tottenham v Everton and West Ham v Newcastle. Chelsea will begin their season on the 14th of September, travelling to Brighton, while Wolves also get their campaign underway on the Monday, facing Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
It’s a demanding opening fixture for Leeds, who will be playing a Liverpool side that haven’t lost at home in the league since April 2017. In winning the Premier League last season, the Merseyside team won the English top flight for the first time in 30 years.
