Wednesday 2nd August
He comes here via a third in a novice chase at Worcester in June, which may or may not be ideal, but he was in winning form over 3m over hurdles in the autumn and he was a good third over 2m at Ascot when last seen on the Flat. His jumps profile gives you every hope he will get this trip, and I think he is on a fair enough mark, too.
He comes here in really good nick, and was only narrowly thwarted in his hat-trick bid at Windsor last time. He has only gone up 8lb for that series of good efforts, which is fair enough, and if I can get a prominent early pitch on this front-runner from stall 11 then hopefully there is more improvement in him
Wings Of The Rock
She came on a bundle from her debut effort when winning well for me at Nottingham in May and then she was pitched in at the deep end in the Queen Mary. She actually ran okay on the far side there, even if she only beat three home at the line. However, she clearly needs to improve considerably to even get competitive here, so hopefully a first-time hood will help her.
She looks to have run career-bests on her last two starts, winning for me off a mark of 92 at Chelmsford and then finishing third in a Listed race at Deauville last time. All her recent starts, and improvement, have come on all-weather surfaces, but she does has plenty of turf form from last year, and I think her mark of 97 has been earned. Maybe she is handicapped up to her best now, and maybe you would be worried if the forecast rain came before the race, but hopefully she will go well and show she can do it away from the all-weather.
