Jamie Spencer: She can make her mark in this grade and beyond
Agrotera
Going into the Sandringham, I thought she was handicapped to win or go very close on her Windsor success. And it was nice to be proved right as she powered home for a wide-margin win. She is now rated 99 – she went up 11lb for the Ascot win – so it obviously makes sense to go looking for some black type with her. That, of course, necessitates that she has to improve to keep the winning run going but she actually has very little to find as it stands, if anything, and you would hope and expect this powerful filly to progress again. She really was very impressive at Ascot – and the fourth, Desert Diamond, has done the form no harm – striking as the type to make her mark in this grade and beyond.
Brorocco
This looks a pretty hot Group 3, with improvers like Elwazir, Communique and Zaaki in here, as well older horses like Gabrial already proven in this company. The handicapper has Brorocco improving by 8lb in finishing second in a Group 2 at York last time, and let’s hope he is right with that assessment, as this looks quite a tough assignment for him. There is rain about but he looks versatile as regards ground.
Via Via
I know they thought a fair bit about this horse at the start of the season, and he ran well on his first three starts, but less so on fast ground at Redcar over 1m2f last time. He has been dropped 4lb for that run, though – enabling him to just get into this 0-95 handicap off 97 – and first-time blinkers could just help him, too. He wouldn’t mind any rain, and you can give him a decent shout in here from stall three, back at a mile, over which he has run his best races.
Fille De Reve
She has improved on her last two starts, just being beaten over 7f here and running what appeared to be a career-best in a Listed race at Carlisle. She went up another 3lb for that latest run, but she is going the right way and hopefully her first try at 6f will suit.
