You can’t get away from the fact that he has been a bit disappointing this season. But he hasn’t been running that badly, especially at Haydock last time, and the ground has probably been too firm for him – a bit of ease in the ground here will suit him – and at least he has come down 4lb this year. That means he is now only 2lb higher when winning a really competitive handicap for me at Newbury in September, and the step back to 1m2f will hopefully suit him. Let’s hope being drawn 18 of 18 isn’t too much of a problem, though.
I rode him when he won at Newcastle, and he is a horse I really like. He then went to Ascot and the step up to 7f really suited him as he saw the trip out really well to assert close home. Of course, this is a step up in class and he needs to improve but he is progressing with his racing and we know that he stays the trip.
