Josephine Gordon: I’m hopeful of a really good run here

Wednesday 2nd August

1.50pm Goodwood

Cool Sky

It looks like he didn’t take to first-time cheekpieces last time out at Sandown, and they are left off here.  At least he came down another 3lb for that run and that puts him on a very fair mark on some of his good form from a couple of seasons ago, notably his Haydock third over 1m6f. He is unproven over this extreme trip on the Flat, but hopefully it will suit and he looks to have run okay on his only previous start here. I imagine he is probably one of the outsiders, though.

White Chocolate

This is the first time I have sat on her, but she looks a really progressive filly with a fair bit to recommend her. She won over course and distance in June and then bumped into another improver (and one completing a four-timer of her own) at Chester last time. Perhaps she wasn’t seen to best effect in that small field on that track, and I’m hopeful of a really good run here.

Boy In The Bar

He beat Vibrant Chords over 6f here in May and has run two fair races since.  He is 5lb higher than that win and races over 7f here, and all of his best runs have been over shorter. But he did run well for me over 7f at Doncaster last November, and I think he should see out the 7f okay on this course. It’s just a matter of whether the handicapper has him at the moment.
